Credentials Certified Clinical Supervisor Definition: The IC&RC defines clinical supervision as a specific aspect of staff development dealing with developing clinical skills and competencies for persons providing counseling. A primary purpose of clinical supervision is to ensure skill development as evidenced in quality patient/client care. Pre-requisite: Currentcertification as an IC&RC/AODA counselor or current certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) at the reciprocal level or hold a current valid specialty in another professional discipline in the human services field at the Masters level or higher. Counselor Experience: Five (5) years (10,000 hours) of work experience as an IC&RC/AODA counselor is required.Higher education does not substitute for any portion of the work experience requirement. Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years (4000 hours) of clinical supervisory experience in the AODA field is required. The two (2) years may be included in the five (5) years of counseling experience and must include the provision of 200 contact hours of face-to-face clinical supervision. All experience must be documented as outlined in the ASACB Application and Standards manual. Education: The education requirement for initial certification is thirty (30) hours of didactic training in clinical supervision. The training must include six (6) hours in each of the following areas: Assessment and Evaluation, Counselor Development, Management and Administration and Professional Responsibilities. Written Examination: All member certification boards must use the IC&RC Clinical Supervisor written examination in their certification process. Code of Ethics: The applicant must sign an ASACB code of ethics specific to Clinical Supervisors. Re-certification: Eighteen (18) hours of approved continuing education must be earned within the two-year certification cycle. Some hours may count for both counselor and supervisor re-certification. November 1 of even numbered years is the current re-certification postmark deadline for this credential. |
